Covid has taken a toll on all of us. Small businesses have seen historic rates of loss and permanent closures. Small businesses in the restaurant industry are faring even worse on average than other industries. Please keep in mind that consumer reviews impact small business far more greatly than big business.
I can prove this…Go take a look at the reviews of your closest McDonalds, Starbucks or Walmart.
Now, will this stop you from giving them your business? Do you think it will stop others from doing the same? What if you replaced those big names with local small businesses? I think if we’re being honest, we all know the answer.
Reviews are subjective. One person’s experience is not necessarily indicative of what yours will be. At the same time, that person’s review probably influences your decision in some manner. Dropping a 1-star review on a small business in our current climate carries more weight than it did a year ago.
This is why we are issuing the
1 Star Review Challenge
Here’s how it works:
Find a local small business you believe in or just one you are considering trying out. Go read consumer reviews and find a 1-Star review. Either share your 5-Star review or go replicate the experience described in the 1-Star you found and see if yours is different.
If your experience does mirror the 1-Star review you read, I would encourage you to reach out to the business directly and give them your constructive feedback. Give them an opportunity to rectify the issue.
If your experience contradicts the 1-Star review you read, post your own review and then share it!
Remember, this is about supporting small businesses–not about criticizing or shaming someone else for their opinion. Please remove the author of the 1-star review’s name and photo prior to posting. Focusing on the reviewer and not the small business only further damages the small business.
Please tag it #1StarReviewChallenge, tag the small business, tag @chefpanzeeapp, and then challenge 3 of your friends to do the same.
